 Each body needs a different quantity of water to live a healthy life.  Our body is composed of 60 % of water and it is important for each cell to have a healthy life.  The level of water required for the body depends on the individual and how they live a sedentary lifestyle and the activities they involve.

The Importance of water

Our human body needs fluids to function properly and staying hydrated is important because it helps in boosting up our metabolism and makes you active. Drinking water helps in flushing out the waste and it also helps in maintaining your body temperature. One faces dehydration if your body doesn’t have enough water that is required by our body and it makes you feel tired and lazy.

What are the symptoms that you do not consume enough water?

The first issue we face due to the lack of consumption of water is dehydration. In this process, your body loses more fluids than you consume.  The symptoms of dehydration may include

  • Feeling thirst often.
  • Feeling exhausted and dizzy.
  • Mouth ulcers.
  • Dry skin and acne.
  •  Dark yellow and fouling smelly pee.
  • Craving to eat.

On average, our body requires 1.2 to 2.5 liters of water is required to maintain our health.

What are the factors that influence your water needs?


 The amount of water required by our body keeps fluctuating depending on the workout we do. It is essential to stay hydrated by consuming water before and after the workout.  It is important to consume a protein shake if your workout schedule lasts for more than an hour because your body might lose its minerals and muscles or electrolytes that are lost in your workout gets replaced with sweat.


The consumption of water also depends on the environment. For example, when we live in a humid place we consume much water than the places which have high altitudes.

 Overall wellbeing:

The consumption of water depends on your wellbeing. People who suffer from fever, vomiting, diarrhea and urinary tract stones are advised to consume more water than your requirements. In such a case, an oral rehydration solution is advised.

Pregnant mom and breastfeeding:

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should stay hydrated all the time because during breast feeding women feeds their child and in the pregnancy phase we face complications like fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea. In this phase, our body requires more than 3 liters of water.

Other sources of water:

Fruits and vegetables also have a major source of water that our body requires. Fruits like watermelon and vegetables like spinach and cucumber provide fluids to our bodies. It is recommended to consume plain water as they have zero calories in it.

Our skin needs water to stay and hydrated and keeps moisturized. The consumption of water helps you stay moisturized and it also improves the texture of your skin and gives you glowing skin.

Drinking a glass of plain water before your meal will keep u full and stop you from overeating and it also suppresses your hunger and reduces the craving of unhealthy food.

Stops water retention:

When your body is dehydrated you feel bloated and your body looks fat than usual. When the consumption of water is reduced your body stores the existing water for its reuse. This is also known as water weight and this weight can be lost only when your body gets sufficient fluid intake.

Note: On average, a man requires 3 to 4 liters of water per day and women require 2 to 3 liter of water to stay hydrated. If you do intense workouts it is advised to consume more water.
